Kate Moss naked truth: Supermodel talks about body issues, husband Jamie Hince and how Johnny Depp helped her
It’s reassuring to know supermodel Kate Moss was once as self-conscious about her body as most other women.
She’s an icon of the fashion world and has been a queen of the catwalk for 20 years.
So it’s reassuring to know supermodel Kate Moss was once as self-conscious about her body as most other women.
Kate, now 38, was just a teenager when she began her life as a model and, referring to an early portfolio picture of herself, she says: “I hated it! Because I was topless again.
“I hated my boobs more than anything as a teenager. I’d do anything not to take my top off.
“I see nudity as empowering now. Before, I didn’t. I cried for years!”
The exceptionally rare interview forms part of a new book called Kate: The Kate Moss Book which looks back on her life and work.
When she started modelling, Kate lived in Croydon and would shock her mum by going out at midnight in a mini-skirt, T-shirt and Vivienne Westwood “prostitute shoes” to party with friends in London from the age of 15.
In clubs she remembers rubbing shoulders with the likes of Boy George, Kylie Minogue and John Galliano.
Then as an aspiring model at 16, 5ft 6in Kate appeared on the cover of hip magazine The Face with a photoshoot titled The 3rd Summer of Love.
Her work increased, she landed a Calvin Klein deal and she was soon doing up to eight catwalk shows a day.
Take it as red: Still stunning in 2012…
Fast-forward to 2012 and, after amassing a reported £48million fortune, she now looks at her skin and body differently.
Sounding more mature, she says: “Well, I am never going to be 18 again, when I could do shoots with no make-up, but it’s not as though I don’t want to have wrinkles, because I think it’s important to have your own face that you live in.
“There are always new ways of looking through new eyes. I still don’t feel I’m done – I’m not finished yet.”
The new book, created by Kate herself, is described as a highly personal photographic retrospective of her career, tracing her evolution from “new girl with potential” to globally recognised star.
She dedicates it To Jamie – a reference to her husband Jamie Hince of rock band The Kills, who she married in July last year.
At the time, she told Vogue she was inspired by the hit TV show Big Fat Gypsy Weddings.
“I am so romantic about gypsies,” Kate explained. “They’re not allowed to do anything until they get married. So they all get married really young, at 16.
“You can’t believe the dresses. They’re like blinging butterflies times 10. They can’t move down the aisle! It’s so genius.
“I was watching Jamie, so cute, and I was, like, these girls, they just spend their whole life waiting for that day – let’s do it!”
Great day: Marrying Jamie Hince
The pair’s marriage was 1920s Great Gatsby-themed and, in true Kate Moss style, they enjoyed a whole weekend of partying.
Photographer Mario Testino, a close pal of Kate’s, says of Jamie: “I’ve met all the guys throughout the years but he is the most real. He has a great sense of humour.”
Kate’s last serious boyfriend was bad-boy musician Pete Doherty and with pals like Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie and Keith Richards, she has a reputation for loving her music.
Asked if she would like to be in a band herself, she says: “I’d have loved to get on a bus with all my mates and go from gig to gig so, in my next life, probably!
Although it is a dream, she does not enjoy “the reality” of being on the road without make-up, moisturisers and home comforts.
Looking back over her career, Kate also credits another of her ex-loves, Johnny Depp, with giving her important advice.
She talks of feeling “lonely” in airports, circling the globe fulfilling a growing number of modelling assignments in the 90s.
At the time she remembers allegations about her private life and diet that could have damaged or upset her.
In 1993 she was at the forefront of a new look dubbed “heroin chic” that was criticised by US President Bill Clinton and led to claims she was anorexic.
But looking back, she says: “If I was anorexic or if I was on heroin, maybe I would have been a bit more ‘oh dear!’.
“But I wasn’t any of those things that they were painting me to be.
“It didn’t have anything to do with who I was at all, so I never really thought about it. I just thought, the people who know me know the truth.
“I was lucky to be with Johnny at that stage. He taught me a lot about fame. He told me ‘never complain, never explain’.
“That’s why I don’t use Twitter and things like that. I don’t want people to know what is true all the time and that’s what keeps the mystery.”
Depp love: Kate speaks highly of Johnny…
However, Depp himself is less sure that he changed Kate in any way.
He said in 2007: “I was not good for Kate. But she’s strong and very smart.
“She’s got a great brain on her and she’s a good mummy.”
It’s no surprise Kate’s new book also features revealing anecdotes involving famous pals.
She remembers sitting for artist Lucien Freud – and how she got him to draw a flock of birds on her body.
She jokes if times ever get tough she can have a “skin graft” and sell the tattoo.
The story illustrates an amazing life.
As she writes in the introduction: “I remember my mum telling me you can’t have fun all the time and I still hold my answer true today when I told her ‘But, why not?’”

Mon cadeau parfait
Soon it will be Christmas! There’s still some time left but I’m already getting nervous about finding presents for my nearest and dearest! And since I know you are too, I’m going to add some extra work for you: find me a present! Ok, what’s that all about?
The idea came from the Etsy website who’s organizing some sort of treasure hunt to find me THE perfect gift! I found the idea amusing because on one hand I will see how well you know my preferences after all that time, and on the other hand, the person who will find the gift that will please me will win a 200 Euros voucher on Etsy: therefore you will make yourself a present as well, that’s what’s great about it!
So I gave a few hints on the Etsy Facebook app: this is where you will need to post your gift findings and proposals.
The 20 proposals that will get the most votes from Internet users (you have until sunday evening to rack your brains) will be submitted to Tokyobibi and myself (yes because she’s just letting me know that she would love to get my present as well!) for final decision.
In this post, I take the opportunity to show you some interior design atmospheres, objects and outfits that I especially like. This will help you even more! Good luck to all of you and see you on Etsy’s page to take part in it! I trust you! I know you’ll do great! (English translation by LN)

‘I enjoy reading gossip magazines’: Jennifer Lopez admits she likes checking up on other celebrities…
While Cameron Diaz said they “make her feel ugly inside”, Jennifer Lopez ‘fessed up to enjoying them like any normal girl would…
Jennifer Lopez is yet to outwardly mention how much she loves 3am Online, but we’re expecting her declaration any day now – she’s just admitted to enjoying a good old read of all the showbiz stories like any normal girl would.
During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show yesterday evening, J Lo was asked whether she secretly reads any celebrity magazines.
She said: “They’re quite fun. I get mad when they say things that are not true about me.
“But I enjoy looking at what everybody’s wearing… you know, I’m a girl like everybody else!”
You are indeed, J Lo. Hence why you’re also feeling broody at the moment – that happens too.
Meanwhile, her What To Expect When You’re Expecting co-star Cameron Diaz, who was also appearing on the show, felt rather differently about gossip magazines.
She said: “’It gives me that ugly feeling inside. It makes my stomach turn a little bit when they make up stuff.”
Cameron continued: “Like with this movie when they said we wouldn’t talk to each other and there were all these cat fights.”
“They always want women to be cat fighting. They are always pitting women against each other. Are the men all sword fighting? That doesn’t happen.”
Jennifer added: “I was like, ‘I haven’t even seen her yet… give us a chance to get in the room’.”
J-Lo is known for her curves. And singing. And acting. And everything else…
Oi, Jen, we thought you were on our side!
We’ll forgive the singer/actress/judge, mind – she’s just done a stunning shoot for Vogue magazine wearing nothing but a teeny tiny swimsuit.
J Lo also posed in a black wrap around swimming costume that makes us want to go to the gym, like, now.
Jennifer Lopez features in this month’s Vogue magazine, out now
Strawberry Filled Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting…
• 2 cups of fresh diced strawberries • 1/2 cup white sugar • 2 tablespoons of corn starch
Over medium heat, toss in your diced strawberries into a saucepan. Stirring constantly, you’ll notice the strawberries getting softer and forming their own little sauce at the bottom of the pan. Then add the sugar and corn starch, this will immediately cause the sauce to thicken. Stir until everything is blended completely, remove from heat and place strawberry sauce into a heat safe bowl. Set aside to cool.
On to the vanilla cupcakes! You will need:
• 1 cup white sugar • 1/2 cup butter, softened • 2 eggs • 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract • 1 1/2 cups flour • 1 3/4 teaspoons baking powder • 1/2 cup milk
Preheat oven to 350F. In a medium bowl, cream together the butter and sugar. Add one egg at a time to the mixture, then add the vanilla extract. In a separate bowl, combine the flour and baking powder. Add the dry ingredients to the cream mixture. Beat ingredients together, then finally add the milk and mix until smooth.
• 2 (8oz.) packages of cream cheese, softened • 1/2 cup butter, softened • 1 tsp. vanilla extract • 3 cups confectioners sugar
Cream together the cream cheese and butter in a medium bowl until smooth, then mix in the vanilla extract. Slowly add the sugar into the mixture until everything is creamy and mixed together nicely.
